NEWS FROM OUR CASA TO
YOUR CASA
A big Early Merry Christmas to all of our friends and family! Thank-you all for your faithful support and prayers these past months; we can hardly believe, how fast the time has flown, and Christmas is almost upon us. The Lord has blessed us richly in so many ways, we are so thankful for the answers to prayer and the wonderful times we have had watching Him work in us and others to bring glory to Himself. We will share some of these highlights further down, so you will have to read on to find out!
A week ago, Mom and I were decorating the house for Christmas. As I thought about all the preparation that we did to make the house look festive and inviting, I was hit with a challenging question from the Lord. “How will you invite me into your celebrations this season?” “Hmm…, that’s a good question Lord,” I said. We can become so caught up in the sparkles and the glitz of the holiday, that we forget the whole reason for our celebration. One Sunday morning I asked my group of toddlers a profound question, “Why do we give gifts at Christmas?” Many of the answers were about the same. One little guy piped up: “We give gifts because we like getting toys because we are kids and kids are supposed to like toys.” I smiled, he had quite a logical answer for a two or three year old, however he had missed the real reason. As adults we often use the same or similar reasoning for leaving Jesus out of the picture. An adult might say, “We decorate and give gifts at Christmas, because it is what our family has always done,” or “That’s the way things are supposed to be, it is tradition.” My hope and prayer this Christmas season is that we would remember that we celebrate because of God’s best gift to us, His Son, Jesus! So may we all have a wonderful holiday season, inviting Jesus to be a part of His celebration!
MINISTRY & PRAYER
CORNER
Praise the Lord for the many opportunities for ministry this past month. We have been greatly blessed and feel so content with where God has us right now.
Please continue to lift up the following ministries in prayer:
1. Please lift up our team leaders, the Neufelds in prayer. Shelli has come down with Hepatitis A. Please pray for a quick recovery for her.
2. Please continue to pray for Cesar Romo, that there will be fruit in his life. Pray for wisdom for Julio as he leads a study him every Monday night.
3. Pray for wisdom and discernment for Heather as she has discussions with a Mormon lady. Pray for this lady, Sarah, that she will truly want to know the truth, and that her and her family will be set free from the bondage of sin and a works oriented cult. Heather usually meets with her every Friday morning for a Moms and Babies group.
4. Praise the Lord for the excellent turn out of children for Club Brincale al Ingles. The club is full with 25 kids attending. Continue to pray with us that the lives of these children will be impacted in a powerful way for Christ. Also, pray that the parents will come to know the Lord through this ministry. This past month’s theme has been based around bears, with our bible sessions on the fruits of the Spirit. We will be having our parent presentation in a couple of weeks.
5. Continue to hold up Julio in prayer every Friday night as he teaches his two classes. They seem to be going well and Julio is really enjoying teaching.
6. Continue to lift up in prayer the weekly men’s studies, Wed. night’s bible studies and Heather’s tutoring sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays.
7. Praise the Lord for the return of our van. During the end of the Webster team, our van died. We were without it for over a week and are very thankful to have it back and running! Also, praise the Lord as it did not cost us as much as we thought it would.
8. Praise the Lord for a wonderful time with both teams from Canada. They were a blessing to us and to the Agua Viva members.
9. Praise the Lord for a wonderful time with Heather’s parents this past month.
HIGHLIGHTS
As I mentioned at the beginning of the letter, we have been blessed in so many ways this past month, and we would like to share with you some of our highlights. A huge answer to prayer came in the beginning of November. Julio received his Visa to come to Canada as a permanent resident. All that is left in the process is an interview at the border, in which the final decision will be made. After many prayers and much paperwork this is finally coming together. We will still be here for our full year with the mission as interns, till the end of April 2007. Another huge answer to prayer was the wonderful times of ministry with both our November teams. A huge highlight for us was the chance we had to begin a new ministry called, “Design on a Dime”. Whenever a team comes we will plan in this ministry where we will help a local Mexican family in need, by interior decorating their house. Usually this means cleaning, painting, building and refurbishing furniture, buying fabric and sewing pillows, sheets, curtains, blankets, etc… Basically we provide a family who would otherwise not be able to afford furnishings and décor. This has been such a blessing this past month as both families who had their houses decorated were in awe of their new surroundings. One of the ladies said that this ministry provided her with a space that she felt proud of to invite friends and neighbors to. Another lady, who suffers from Diabetes, said that her space gave her a bit of dignity again. Her kitchen and living room were in need of help, and her health had not permitted her to take care of the space. What a blessing to touch these families through practical ways. Another highlight came during our Webster team; they were able to get all of the foam block walls finished for the main floor. These are just a few of the highlights we have had over the past month. Praise the Lord for His many blessings and work here in Mexico, through us as missionaries, all of our supporters and the teams that come from Canada to help make all of this possible.
